On July 18, 2014, Gaillard and Banifatemi secured a USD 50 billion award for the majority shareholders of the former Yukos Oil Company in an arbitration brought against the Russian Federation in relation to the expropriation of their investment in the company, in violation of the Energy Charter Treaty. This is the largest award ever rendered in the history of arbitration.
