Central banks worldwide explore Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) concepts as a new type of public money that responds to the world’s ever increasing cashless trend and addresses existing issues in cashless payment transactions. However, CBDC issued by central banks to the public comes with risks for the financial sector, especially the banking industry, and tasks for which central banks are not mandated. This talk whether Singapore needs a digital dollar and what its features should be.
