Jointly-hosted by Justice Without Borders, Tan Kok Quan Partnership (TKQP) and King & Spalding (Singapore) LLP, this event will discuss the legal and practical realities of placement fees for migrant domestic workers (MDWs) in Singapore. Speakers will cover the current gaps between Singapore and Indonesian laws on agency / placement fees, and consider suitable legal recourse for overcharged MDWs. Such recourse includes, but is not limited to, causes of action available in contract and in restitution. The economic exploitation of MDWs continues to be a cross-border issue, and combating it requires an understanding of regional perspectives and considerations.
