This event is organised by National University of Singapore, Centre for International Law. This lecture examines the International Law Commission’s work on sea-level rise in relation to international law from the perspective of Judge Aurescu, former Co-Chair of the Study Group (2019–2024). It discusses the ILC’s work across the law of the sea, statehood, and protection of affected persons, and considers the relevance of the ICJ’s 2025 Advisory Opinion on states’ obligations in respect of climate change and sea-level rise.
